Cooking area:
Unlike other kitchens the formal kitchen does not use a brick
hearth but rather a wood, Wentworth’s Traditional or Ascot, or
metal one.
-
Sink base area:
In this area the standard sink bases are normally used.
Sometimes reeded or fluted columns would be placed on either
side slightly pulling out to give more depth to the sink base.
-
Plate racks:
Plate racks are not normally used in this type of kitchen. Open
display cabinets with a groove for plates to lean against the
back of the cabinet are popular.
-
Base furniture:
In a formal kitchen the use of wider drawer packs for linens is
prevalent. A raised panel is typical for this type of kitchen.
Cutouts, lattice and wire mesh are also not common in this type
of kitchen. Columns are used to encompass the refrigerator and
paneled ends are used instead of cladding. These are some of the
common features that make a formal kitchen..
-
Upper wall furniture:
Upper cabinets and dresser units use glass in order to achieve a
china cabinet look. A minimal amount of open display cabinets
are appropriate. Framing around the windows and having the
cornice run over the windows is fitting. Again paneled ends are
used instead of cladding in a formal kitchen.
-
Mouldings:
Mouldings: A larger face frame cornice attached to a sub rail
moulding with dentil and a half astrigal moulding is a frequent
combination. Skirting at the base would always be used in this
type of kitchen.
