Rough mill:
This department is responsible for preparing all the parts
that are needed to build each project:
Wood
storage
Upon
delivery of wood we take time to sort and stack using spacers to
create proper air flow allowing wood to breathe until ready for
milling which means that the moisture levels in the wood remain
consistent.
Natural woods are
stored in the best possible conditions to ensure that they are
in peak condition when the time comes to build your furniture.
All our woods come
from suppliers who deliver only the highest quality products.
Frame and door parts
Working from a list provided from the engineering
department we
begin the process.
Wood is cut
oversized in rough form it is then worked by hand thru a joiner,
this allows us to get one side flat which allows the natural
stress to be taken out of the wood allowing us to produce doors
and parts that will not warp.
Planning. Now wood
is run thru a thickness planner allowing us to have two smooth
sides and a piece of wood perfectly straight.
Rip saw. At
this point wood is run thru the rip saw allowing us to cut
various widths needed
Door center panels
This is one of the
most critical parts to be milled as it is
the most exposed in the kitchen. Matching the wood is
very important at this point.
Sizing. Wood is cut oversized in rough form, then worked by hand thru
joiner following the same process for frames and door stock.
Selection. At this point we select matching wood and place together with the
ring pattern alternating as to prevent warping which means that the
panel will not warp.
Gluing. Panel is glued, placed in clap and allowed to dry.
Final sizing. After dry the final sizing is done.
Shaping. Panel is run thru shaper to achieve its final profile.
Sanding. Panel is then hand sanded and sealed this is an extra step that
will help prevent moisture from absorbing in the wood.
