Red Maple
America has several species of maple, including swamp maple,
scarlet maple, soft maple - all native to North America from
North Carolina to Newfoundland across to Texas. Typical species reach
between 70 and a 100 feet with diameters of up to 24ins. Generic
Maple is of course the official tree of Canada.
THE
TIMBER
All maples are fine textured, diffuse porous woods
with creamy white sapwood and light beige or tan-brown heartwood.
USES
Maple has all the favorable working characteristics. It turns
well, planes well and can be taken to a glass-smooth finish. Its
usage includes kitchen utensils, turned articles, furniture
framing and cabinets.
